Duo Homonculi
pitchfork, metal, straw, 3D printing, nylon, electronic system, bicycle chain.
Duo Homonculi is a robotic sculpture in which a pitchfork tirelessly pushes straw. It is a fictional concept that reimagines the forage-pushing robot as a user-friendly tool. Used on farms to automate animal feeding, the forage-pushing robot is an opaque machine whose design is completely disconnected from its function. In contrast, Duo Homonculi is transparent; its mechanisms are not hidden. Its design is determined by its function, placing the installation within the realm of free and user-friendly design. It invites us to rethink our relationship with machines and underscores the importance of fully accessing the knowledge of our tools in order to resist their monopolization by a handful of people.
The Duo Homonculi pitchfork was created by Shanti Rey Fayet.
